How to Make Money Off a Blog – An Interview with Tracy Lynn from Simple Living Country Gal
Tracy Lynns is someone that I truly admire. She runs an incredible Facebook group of bloggers that work together to help each other succeed.
Tracy hasn’t been blogging for too long, but has had incredible success with her blog.
She has truly created something wonderful in her group and she is such a genuine person. I’m always learning from her.
Tracy Lynn does blog assessments. I’ve heard reports from other bloggers that have said the help she provided, along with the help of iMark on the tech side, was what helped them clean up their blog so they could apply for Mediavine.
Tracy did an assessment of this blog as well and came up with all sorts of ideas for me to improve it. It’s a 13 page document with tons of customized recommendations.
What makes Tracy Lynn an expert?
Tracy knows her stuff! She started collecting emails and doing email marketing very early on. She now creates digital products that are valuable to her readers.
What I love is that she started a blog that wasn’t about blogging. Her blog is about homesteading and has done really well.
(*I could not pull up the stats for the other two sites in either SEMrush or Ubersuggest*)
What is your favorite topic to write about?
Oh, it changes daily and that is why I have so many blogs! Right now I love writing about scheduling and how to set up and create a super effective to do list.
If you had to ramp up traffic on a blog quickly, what 3 things would you focus on first?
Content, Pinterest, asking my audience for help.
Do you use the juice from your other blogs to get your new blog going?
Yes, but mostly my own. I love to link out to other blogs to help make my content more valuable and I do that quite often. Link juice I get with backlinks. I write for online magazines in my niche and get great quality backlinks that way.
What has surprised you most about blogging?
Just how much fun I would have doing it. I thought I would burn out quickly, but I am having more fun today than I was just a few years ago. It really is my dream job and I get to do it every single day!
What advice would you give a new motivated blogger to succeed quickly?
Set up a list, a game plan of sorts and follow it tweaking things as you go. Don’t be afraid to invest before you make an income. Doing it all yourself can be incredibly overwhelming so do what you love and hire out what you don’t.
What social media platforms do you like best and why?
I love Facebook and Instagram. They are fun, pure and simple and I enjoy being there. There is nothing quite as fulfilling and a personal relationship with my readers and I can do that best on these two platforms.
How did you build your email list?
I put my focus every single day in doing so. Creating truly helpful Lead Magnets to offer to my readers that match almost directly to each post. Then once my new reader joins my list, I work really hard to build a genuine relationship that is two way. I answer my own emails as quickly as I can, so my readers know that above all things I am here to help them.
If you had to give advice to your newbie blogging self, what would it be?
From day one, begin working on an email list. That is where the money is and that is where the fulfillment is. Both are needed for a truly successful business.
We are dorks in my household, so I have to ask, what is your favorite nerdy movie or book?
I am a huge sci-fi fan and LOVE Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind followed closely by Harry Potter.
What I Learned From Tracy Lynn
Tracy Lynn is just a normal person. She’s not a celebrity blogger. She’s just a woman who stayed the course. Tried and tested out different strategies, and kept on moving until she figured out what worked.
Tracy Lynn now has a tribe of women that hang on her every word. That buy up her products and love learning from her.
There’s nothing better than learning from someone who hasn’t been blogging long but has had major success.
She has only been at this for 3 years. In the blogging world, we often hear about people who started in 2008, or way back in the early days of blogging.
There are all kinds of ways to do this. Every single blogger in this series has done it slightly different than the last. They all test, try, work, and keep on moving. That’s the key to blogging success. Patience, testing, working and being consistent.
Can you make money blogging? Hell, yes! Tracy Lynn has proven that blogging can be very lucrative.
Can I make money blogging? Hell, yes! But that’s the same question!!! No, it’s not. We are not the same person. The point is, anyone can make money from a blog.
I don’t make a habit of asking people how much money they make from blogging, but you can be sure that if she’s got that kind of traffic coming to her blog, she’s DEFINITELY making some cheddar.
You don’t have to be Tracy Lynn to do it. People are proving it every day. Stay tuned in this series to see more of this.
Deposit photos is where I get all of my photos from. They have high quality images and when you purchase from them, you are purchasing the rights to use the images.
Make sure you read the disclosures to be sure you are using the images in a way that does not violate their terms. For instance, if you intend to sell their images on merch, be very careful you do not violate their terms.
ConvertKit is an incredible program that is very user-friendly. When I was learning, I went from not knowing the program at all to setting up an email sequence, sending out an email blast (they call them broadcasts), and setting up forms all in the first session.
It does have a monthly fee, but it is worth every penny. As a newbie blogger, you don't want to pay for a lot of extras and I know it can be tempting, but this is by far one of the best investments you will make.
Siteground is not just a service for me. They have been a sort of partner and IT helper. when I was a newbie blogger, I didn't know how to do anything. They have a chat function as a help resource that I used almost daily to figure out how to install certain things, or figure out the backend of WordPress.
They have saved me hundreds of dollars on services. You can set up your site, buy your domain, get privacy for your information connected to your domain, and get all kinds of help if you need it.

Elna is the BEST!!! When I first started writing, I followed her blog because she has all kinds of free resources that are incredibly helpful. I took one of her courses and signed up for all of her groups. She never stops pumping out valuable content and her paid resources are packed FULL of valuable information!!
Grayson will do an evaluation of your blog for speed. Speed is a huge factor when getting people to stay on your site longer. Having a quicker site can lower your bounce rate and increase your dwell time. I've seen people get a traffic boost as soon as their site speed increases.
